KV Pharmaceutical Co. said Wednesday is has laid off 289 employees, or approximately 42 percent of its work force.
The move is part of the Bridgeton, Mo.-based company’s ongoing effort to lower operating costs while it works with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to return its products to market after halting shipments following recalls of oversized tablets in 2008.
