$670M Mississippi River bridge breaks ground

U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood visited St. Louis on Monday for the groundbreaking of the $670 million Mississippi River bridge project.

The four-lane, cable-stayed bridge will connect St. Clair County, Ill., to St. Louis when it’s finished in 2014. The bridge is being built to reduce traffic congestion, especially on the Poplar Street Bridge, which now carries Interstates 55,64 and 70.
