A Look Back: Economic Development In Missouri Saw Big Win With Virgin Mobile

kansas-city_2218_editAll month long Missouri Partnership is taking a look back at 31 of Missouri’s biggest stories in economic development from the past year. Today we are looking back at Virgin Mobile and their decision to move their headquarters to Kansas City, Missouri.

On July 15, Virgin Mobile selected Kansas City, Missouri, as the site for their new headquarters citing the region’s highly skilled workforce as the key reason for the move. In addition to relocating the company’s headquarters, Virgin Mobile also announced their plans to add more than 50 new jobs by the end of this year.

“Kansas City has an emphasis on entrepreneurship and technology, especially in the downtown and Crossroads area, which fits exactly with the direction for the new Virgin Mobile,” said Dow Draper, Virgin Mobile USA CEO. “It is a vibrant place to live and work, giving us the ability to attract a world-class team with experience across multiple industries to become part of the global Virgin family.”

The choice to move to Missouri was part of Virgin Mobile’s plan to re-launch the company under Sprint, and included plans to build their new office in downtown Kansas City near the existing Sprint Center and Sprint Accelerator.
