Wash U solar energy research center gets millions in federal funding

A Washington University-based research center seeking better ways to collect and use solar energy has received $14.4 million in federal funding.

The Photosynthetic Antenna Research Center (PARC), which is led by Washington University professor Bob Blankenship, has received a second round of funding from the Department of Energy in the form of a $3.6 million annual award for four years.

PARC was one of 46 Energy Frontier Research Centers (EFRC) whose creation was initially funded by the Department of Energy in 2009. The Department of Energy established the centers to lay the groundwork to meet the global need for clean and economical energy.
