Vital Farms’ Springfield plant will now span 150,000 square feet, and at capacity, a team of 225 will be able to process 6 million eggs daily.
Vital Farms broke ground in 2016 on its Springfield facility, dubbed “Egg Central Station,” with the plan to create 50 new jobs. However, the company’s prime location in Missouri, along with the state’s pro-business environment, helped that number quadruple in a few short years.
“The growth trajectory of the company as a whole has been really strong,” Carl Kicklighter, Director of Plant Operations said. “We knew when this facility was put in that we would eventually run out of capacity.”
Matt Morrow, President of the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce, praised the cooperative spirit of Vital Farms and called the expansion a tremendous story of what’s good about Springfield and the company.
“They embrace collaborative partnerships and community – have since before they got here, and they continue to do that,” said Morrow. “That’s been the key to their success, and they’d be the first to tell you that, but it’s also a great example of what makes businesses grow and thrive in our community in particular.”
