TripAdvisor names two Missouri cities as top U.S. travel destinations

After sorting through millions of reviews, TripAdvisor has released its 2014 top travel destinations lists and two Missouri cities made the Top 25 U.S. destinations list: Branson ranks at No. 19, and St. Louis ranks at No. 23.
TripAdvisor recognized Branson as the “Live Music Show Capitol of the World,” describing it as “Las Vegas without the casinos and people drinking margaritas-by-the-yard at 10 a.m.” They also mention the natural beauty of the Ozarks, noting the numerous outdoor activities in the area such as hiking, biking, fishing and water sports at nearby Table Rock Lake. The Titanic Museum and Showboat Branson Belle were also mentioned.
TripAdvisor recognized St. Louis at the Gateway to the West, noting that the “history of St. Louis has been heavily influenced by Westward expansion and blues music” and naming the big “must-see” as the Gateway Arch. They also bring attention to the family-friendly nature of the city, pointing out the St. Louis Zoo, Magic House and Forest Park. The Anheuser-Busch Factory Tour, Missouri Botanical Garden and City Museum were also mentioned.
Tripadvisor’s list is based on users’ rankings of hotels, attractions and restaurants over a 12-month period. This is the first time St. Louis and Branson have appeared on the annual list, which has come out five times prior to this year.
