St. Louis Tops List of Heartland Cities That Are Essential to the Future of American Innovation

St. Louis, Missouri, ranked number one on the list of the “8 Heartland Cities Are Essential to the Future of American Innovation,” according to an article by Entrepreneur.com. The article highlighted the Cortex Innovation Community, BIOSTL, and the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency as key factors in its ranking.

According to the article, “with the presence of several fortune 100 companies, a huge supply of VC funds and public grants, plus a vast amount of resources designed specifically for innovators and entrepreneurs, St. Louis is on the precipice of leading the United States in 21st century innovation.”

And it’s not just St. Louis that is getting in on the action.

From the UMKC Innovation Center on the west side of the state in Kansas City, to the Missouri Innovation Center in the center of Missouri in Columbia, there are nearly two-dozen innovation communities across the state. These communities aren’t just for startups. Major corporations have a significant presence within these districts as they collaborate with the best and the brightest to take our state into the future.

Companies like Square, founded by St. Louis natives Jack Dorsey and Jim McKelvey, Microsoft, and Boeing have all opened offices in Missouri’s innovation communities. In fact, the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency singled out the Cortex Innovation Community in St. Louis as a key reason for selecting the city for their new NGA West headquarters.

Additionally, Missouri offers some of the lowest business costs in the country, and our strategic location at the center of North America makes getting products to customers faster than ever to anywhere in the world.
