Missouri Zoo Named “Best Zoo In U.S.”

The St. Louis Zoo in St. Louis, Missouri, has been named the 2017 USA Today Readers’ Choice for Best U.S. Zoo, according to a USA Today poll. A panel of zoo and travel experts nominated 20 zoological parks accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, which was then narrowed down to the top 10 via popular vote.

The St. Louis Zoo credited their employees and supporters for making the zoo what it is today. “It’s through their strong support that we can provide superior care for the animals, save wildlife in wild places, connect people with nature, and offer a great place to spend time with friends and family members,” said the zoo in a statement.

The St. Louis Zoo was also recently named the “Nation’s Best Free Attraction” by USA Today’s 10 Best Readers’ Choice Awards Program. The zoo was the only zoo featured on the list and beat out Central Park, in New York City, along with more than 20 other attractions.

The Saint Louis Zoo has offered free admission since its founding in 1910. It attracts about 3.2 million visitors each year, according to the zoo. The St. Louis Zoo is one of many attractions Missouri has to offer in addition to its world championship sports teams and unique natural environment.
