Missouri Wins 2018: Bayer & Monsanto Complete $66 Billion Agtech Merger

All month long Missouri Partnership is taking a look back at some of Missouri’s biggest stories in economic development from the past year, and today we are taking a look back at Bayer AG and Monsanto’s $66 billion merger, and the plan to establish their new global Seeds & Traits and North American commercial headquarters in St. Louis, Missouri.

In June, the companies announced they had completed their $66 billion definitive joint merger, which was originally announced in 2016. Missouri’s agriculture industry contributes $33 billion in GDP to Missouri’s economy, and generates $88 billion in sales and more than 378,000 jobs. In fact, so much agricultural product is shipped via river barge from the St. Louis region that a 15-mile section of the Mississippi is becoming known as the “Ag Coast” of America.
