SunEdison, the renewable energy developer based in Maryland Heights, was tabbed one of the smartest companies in 2015, coming in at the No. 6 spot, via MIT Technology Review’s annual ranking. To make the list, MIT stated that “a company had to have innovative technology and a business model that was both practical and ambitious, with the result that it has set the agenda in its field over the past 12 months.”

SunEdison out-ranked notable companies such as IBM, Google, Amazon and Microsoft. MIT noted SunEdison’s aggressiveness in “expanding its renewable energy products and building a business to provide electricity to the developing world.”
