Nine out of the 10 Missouri companies to make the 2014 Fortune 500 list are based in the St. Louis area. They include: Express Scripts at No. 20; Emerson at No. 121; Monsanto at No. 197; Centene at No. 251; Reinsurance Group of America (RGA) at No. 274; Peabody Energy at No. 365; Ameren at No. 379; Edward Jones at No. 444; and Graybar Electric at No. 449.
Springfield-based O-Reilly Automotive also made the list at No. 390.
Express Scripts moved to No. 20 this year, up from No. 24 in 2013. The company expects its earnings per share to increase between 10-20 percent annually for the next several years due to expected growth from its mail order and specialty drug businesses.
Emerson, Monsanto, Centene RGA, Jones Financial and Graybar also moved up compared to last year.
Fortune ranks companies by total revenue in their respective fiscal years.
