More workers to be trained for in-demand jobs in STEM fields, thanks to $19.7 million grant

Gov. Jay Nixon today said that a $19.7 million grant to Missouri’s 12 community colleges and the State Technical College of Missouri will bolster the state’s economy and increase the number of Missourians with a post-secondary degree by training an estimated 1,900 workers for in-demand careers in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields.

Under the Governor’s leadership, the Missouri Department of Economic Development and the state’s Workforce Investment Boards worked with the schools to apply for the federal grant, which comes from the U.S. Department of Labor Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Career Training grant program.
