Missouri Adds New Certified Site In Kirksville

The Missouri Department of Economic Development (DED) announced that the K-REDI Industrial Site located in the City of Kirksville is now a Missouri Certified Site, meaning it is shovel-ready for companies looking to set up their business.

“Having a certified site shows companies that your community is serious about creating jobs and helping businesses expand,” said Rob Dixon, Acting Director of the Missouri Department of Economic Development. “Prepared communities win projects, and this is a great way to show that Kirksville is a prepared community.”

The Kirksville site joins Missouri’s 33 recognized development-ready land sites. Certified sites meet a set of standards designed to eliminate risk and expedite a company’s move to a new location. Items reviewed include the availability of utilities, site access, environmental concerns, land use conformance, and potential site development costs.

“We are proud of this certification and are excited about the marketing potential it gives us,” said Carolyn Chrisman, Executive Director of Kirksville Regional Economic Development, Inc. “We have worked hard to eliminate risk for a company by documenting all infrastructure and capacity the site has. Now will begin the hard work of attracting a company to the site and to the community.”

“Kirksville Regional Economic Development (K-REDI) knew it needed to enhance its presence in the market and one way to do this was through the State of Missouri’s site certification program,” said Kirksville Mayor Phillip Biston. “In less than three years, K-REDI purchased land, worked through the requirements of certification and today have a “certified” site, shovel ready and more importantly owned by the one entity whose job it is to create jobs for our community. As the Mayor of Kirksville and a strong partner with K-REDI, I am both proud of and excited for the opportunities the site certification will have for our community.”
