Five Missouri Companies Named “Best Places To Work” By Fortune

Five Missouri companies were listed in the “2017 Fortune 100 Best Companies To Work For” list. Edward Jones ranked in the 5th spot, while Burns & McDonnell, Veterans United Home Loans, World Wide Technology, and Build-a-Bear came in 16th, 27th, 40th and 76th respectively.

Each year Fortune partners with Great Place to Work to conduct an extensive survey of employees in corporate companies.  The survey measures employees’ attitudes about management credibility, overall job satisfaction, camaraderie, pay and benefits, as well as training, diversity, and recognition programs.

St. Louis, Missouri-based Edward Jones ranked highest of any Missouri company on the list with 95 percent of employees ranking their workplace as great. This was Edward Jones’ 18th year making the list.

Burns & McDonnell, headquartered in Kansas City, ranked 16th for the second year in a row. The 100%-employee-owned engineering, architecture, and construction firm received praise for its tight-knit, collaborative teams and generous performance incentives.

Columbia, Missouri’s Veterans United Home Loans made the list again this year after making the list for the first time in 2016. The nation’s largest dedicated VA lender moved up three spots from its 2016 ranking.

World Wide Technology based in St. Louis, Missouri, ranked 40th in its 6th year on the list. Employees say its core values of passion and integrity are “considered in every part of the business.”

Build-a-Bear, headquartered in St. Louis, ranked 76th with employees stating they feel as if they “literally sell happiness,” which might be why there were more than 150 applicants per management job opening at the company last year.

In addition to great corporate culture, Missouri’s competitive cost of living and vibrant culture enables these companies to provide employees with a high quality of life at a lower cost. As a result, we continue to see Missouri talent driving innovation and building a modern, cutting edge economic environment.
