Ground broken for Rolla solar farm

Solar energy farm currently under construction at the Hy Point Industrial Park in Rolla could provide enough energy to be consumed by about 300 to 350 average size homes annually when completed this spring, according to the company building the facility.

The solar farm will have a 3.197-megawatt capacity of direct current, explained Loren Williamson, senior vice president of project development with MC Power Companies. The solar facility will have a maximum output of 2.8 megawatts of alternating current.

There will be a total of 10,152 solar panels that are fixed at a 25-degree tilt, he explained, which will maximize the annual production of solar energy at this location. About 30 miles of wires are needed for the solar farm, and a fence will surround the solar facility.
