 Quality of Life

The Northwest Missouri region provides an excellent quality of life, with a low cost of living, highly regarded hospitals, and endless recreational options.

The Northeast Region’s hospitals, such as Hannibal Regional Hospital, Moberly Regional Medical Center, and Northeast Regional Medical Center (Kirksville)  provide quality, affordable care to area residents.

Hannibal, the home town of Mark Twain, has many historic attractions, including Mark Twain Cave, Mark Twain’s boyhood home and museum, the Mark Twain Mississippi River Boat, and more.

The Mark Twain Lake, located in Ralls and Monroe counties, is Missouri’s largest. The lake area offers camping, boating, fishing, horseback riding, hunting and more.

The Thousand Hills State Park  near Kirksville offers boat rentals, camping, fishing, swimming, hiking, and historic Native American petroglyphs. Kirksville also offers many cultural and historic attractions, such as the Truman State University art gallery and the Still National Osteopathic Museum.

Moberly is home to one of the largest municipal parks in Missouri, Rothwell Park, featuring over 447 wooded acres and 50 acres of lakes. Facilities at the park include a pool, ball fields, tennis courts, an archery range, playgrounds, fishing areas, and a walking trail. A miniature train also operates in the park. Moberly’s Five and Drive theater is the only combination indoor movie theater and drive-in in the nation.
