SULLIVAN, Mo—The Missouri Department of Economic Development announced today that hardware and improvement store Menard, Inc., will break ground on a new 185,000 sq. ft. manufacturing and distribution facility in Sullivan, creating 129 new jobs initially. The Wisconsin-based company expects to invest $29.1 million into the new facility, which will include concrete block and truss manufacturing and a cross-dock distribution building.

“This announcement is terrific news for Sullivan and the hundreds of Missourians who will benefit from these new jobs,” said Gov. Jay Nixon. “Menard’s decision to build a new $29 million facility in Sullivan is another example of how Missouri’s skilled workforce and business-friendly climate are attracting new jobs and new investments to communities across the state. By balancing our budgets and making smart investments in our future, we will continue to help communities like Sullivan create jobs and compete world-wide.”

Menard, Inc., a hardware and home improvement store with about 300 locations, has been adding stores throughout the Midwest. The company chose Sullivan as the location for their new Missouri facility in part because of the availability of land with a prime location along Interstate 44 and proximity to BNSF rail service.

“We are pleased to have selected Sullivan as we expand our footprint in the Midwest,” Jeff Abbott, Menard, Inc. Spokesperson said. “Our new location here in Missouri not only meets our transportation needs, but also gives us access to a highly skilled workforce.”

“We greatly appreciate the confidence the Menards team has shown in choosing Sullivan as the location for this new manufacturing and distribution facility,” Mayor Dennis Watz said. “This announcement is wonderful news for the people of this community who will benefit from these new jobs.”

The new Sullivan facility will be one of over a half dozen regional manufacturing and distribution centers used to support the growth of Menards’ retail stores, including new ones in and around Missouri. The company will break ground on the project this month and expects the first phase to be complete by late 2016. The development site has additional land available to accommodate future expansion phases for the company as needs arise.

To assist Menard, Inc. with its expansion, the Missouri Department of Economic Development has offered a strategic economic incentive package that the company can receive if it meets strict job creation and investment criteria. The City of Sullivan, the St. Louis Regional Chamber, the Missouri Partnership and Franklin County also assisted with the company’s expansion.
